Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Central Statistics Agency (BPS) has stated that the annual inflation rate stood at 3.28 per cent (year-on-year/yoy) in September 2026, primarily driven by the food, beverages, and tobacco group; transport; as well as personal care and other services.

“Based on expenditure groups, inflation this year was mainly driven by three groups,” said Ateng Hartono, Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics at BPS, during a BPS release in Jakarta on Thursday.

The food, beverages, and tobacco group recorded inflation of 4.37 per cent, contributing 1.28 per cent to the annual inflation rate. Several commodities were the main drivers within this group, including fresh fish, broiler chicken, bird’s eye chilli, rice, cooking oil, machine-rolled clove cigarettes (SKM), and beef.

The personal care and other services group recorded the highest inflation among the three groups, at 7.77 per cent, with a contribution of 0.53 per cent. Inflation in this group was mainly influenced by the rising price of gold jewellery.

Looking at individual components, all components experienced year-on-year inflation in September 2026. Core inflation rose by 2.84 per cent, contributing 1.82 per cent. Dominant commodities contributing to this inflation included gold jewellery, cooking oil, rice with side dishes, mobile phones, laptops or notebooks, and engine oil.

Meanwhile, the volatile food component experienced annual inflation of 5.03 per cent, with a contribution of 0.83 per cent. Inflationary pressure in this component primarily originated from broiler chicken, bird’s eye chilli, rice, and beef.

From a regional perspective, all provinces experienced annual inflation in September 2026. The highest inflation occurred in North Sulawesi at 7.59 per cent, while the lowest inflation was recorded in South Sumatra at 2.55 per cent.
