Most Asia-Pacific stock markets strengthened during trading on Monday (5/10/2026). This occurred amidst easing market pressures alongside stable oil prices and US bond yields.

According to CNBC, Japan’s Nikkei 225 index led the gains, rising more than 1.7%, while the Topix index increased by 0.79% and Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 added 0.53%.

Meanwhile, mainland Chinese and South Korean stock markets were closed for holidays. The positive movement in the Asian region follows the US stock markets ending last week’s trading in the green.

In Friday’s (2/10/2026) trading, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 250 points or 0.5% to 51,176.46. The S&P 500 index strengthened by 0.7% to the level of 7,722.72, while the Nasdaq Composite surged 1.2% to 27,190.86 after briefly hitting an all-time intraday high.

US stock movements last week were characterised by a surge in US Treasury yields and weaker-than-expected employment reports. This data eased investor concerns regarding the possibility of the Federal Reserve raising interest rates again this month.

Nevertheless, US government bond yields remain a primary focus for investors. The 10-year Treasury yield rose to its highest level in over two decades, triggering fears that higher borrowing costs could weigh on equities even if the Fed maintains interest rates in the short term.

Technology stocks led Wall Street’s gains on Friday, with Nvidia recording an intraday record high. The Nasdaq Composite also hit a record, leaving investors to watch whether this momentum can continue during this week’s trading.

With a relatively quiet economic calendar, investors will closely monitor geopolitical developments and market dynamics before the earnings season begins. The earnings season will unofficially commence with the publication of JPMorgan’s performance on 13 October 2026.

“A light data calendar means investors will respond to the ebbs and flows of geopolitical and market-specific developments, combined with a number of fairly supportive recent economic reports, ahead of the start of earnings season,” said Gary Schlossberg, global strategist at Wells Fargo Investment Institute.

On Monday (5/10/2026), investors will be watching the services sector activity report from the Institute for Supply Management (ISM). Subsequently, the minutes from the Fed’s September meeting will be released on Wednesday, while preliminary October consumer sentiment data from the University of Michigan is scheduled for release on Friday.

Several companies are also scheduled to release financial reports this week, including Constellation Brands, Levi Strauss, and PepsiCo. Additionally, investors will be monitoring the performance of Delta Air Lines and several other firms.
