The fate of Komisaris Polisi Dedi Kurniawan, alias Kompol DK, has finally been decided. This mid-level Polri officer has been officially dismissed following a viral video that implicated him in the alleged use of a vape containing narcotics.

The firm decision was handed down during the Polri Professional Ethics Code Hearing (KKEP) held by the Professional and Security Division of the North Sumatra Regional Police on Wednesday, 6 May 2026. In the hearing, Kompol DK was imposed with the sanction of Dismissal Without Honour (PTDH).

“It is true that the North Sumatra Regional Police conducted an ethics hearing against Kompol DK by the North Sumatra Regional Police’s Propam team. The result is that we have carried out PTDH against Kompol DK,” stated the Head of Public Relations Division of the North Sumatra Regional Police, Komisaris Besar Polisi Ferry Walintukan, to reporters, quoted from VIVA Medan, on Thursday, 7 May 2026.

The hearing against Kompol DK lasted quite a long time, from 10:00 WIB to 17:00 WIB at the North Sumatra Regional Police’s Propam Division Building. During the process, several aggravating facts were revealed.

Ferry explained that one of the main factors that aggravated the punishment was Kompol DK’s attitude, which was deemed uncooperative during the investigation process.

“Based on the results of our investigation, the person concerned was uncooperative,” stated the North Sumatra Regional Police spokesperson.

Not only that, Propam also emphasised that no mitigating factors were found for the violation committed by Kompol DK.

“The aggravating considerations in the hearing were that the person concerned was uncooperative. Whereas there were no mitigating considerations,” said Ferry.

This case emerged after a viral video circulated on social media showing a police officer allegedly in an unconscious or ‘ngefly’ state. In the video, Kompol DK is said to have used an electronic cigarette or pod suspected to contain narcotic substances.

In response to the viral video, the North Sumatra Regional Police’s Propam quickly moved by securing Kompol DK and placing him in special placement (patsus) for examination purposes.

Ferry added that they had taken statements from Kompol DK as well as several parties seen in the video. Although the urine test results showed negative, further deepening was still carried out through advanced analysis.

“We ensure that this process runs transparently and accountably. If violations are found, whether disciplinary or code of ethics, they will certainly be addressed according to the applicable rules,” stated Ferry.
