A series of train accidents in the East Bekasi area has drawn sharp scrutiny from the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI). Member of Commission V of the DPR RI, Mori Hanafi, expressed deep concern and urged the government to conduct a thorough evaluation of all parties involved in the incident.

The incident began at the Bulak Kapal level crossing in Bekasi, when an electric taxi owned by Green SM was on the railway track and was struck by a passing commuter train (KRL). This initial incident disrupted KRL operations, causing trains to stop on the tracks.

The situation worsened when the long-distance train Argo Bromo Anggrek, travelling from Gambir Station towards Surabaya, was involved in an accident with a KRL at Bekasi Timur Station. This chain of events highlights the cascading effects of the accident at the level crossing. “We are deeply saddened by this tragedy. Handling the victims must be the top priority,” said Mori in Jakarta on Tuesday, 28 April 2026.

He stressed that the government must not stop at emergency handling alone. According to him, a systemic evaluation must be carried out immediately, including the operations of the involved transport companies.

Mori also requested that the government summon Green SM’s management to ensure all operating fleets meet safety standards and are roadworthy. “In addition, the importance of increasing supervision at level crossings, which have long been known to be accident-prone,” said this NasDem Party faction politician.

On the other hand, Mori appreciated the government’s and authorities’ quick response in handling the incident. He described the swift actions by various parties as evidence of the state’s presence in emergency situations.

“Thank you to the President, as well as the ranks of Basarnas, the Ministry of Transportation, TNI, and Polri who quickly carried out evacuations,” he said.

He emphasised that this tragedy must become a momentum for serious improvements in the national transport safety system, particularly in the railway sector.
