Following the Toraja customary court session, Bareskrim to question Pandji again next week
Following the Toraja customary court session, the Indonesian National Police’s Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) will re-question comedian Pandji Pragiwaksono in the case of alleged insulting or hate speech with ethnic SARA toward the Toraja people. This examination comes after Pandji previously underwent a Toraja adat hearing following his remarks. Head of Sub-Directorate I of the Cyber Crime Directorate of Bareskrim Polri, Kombes Rizki Agung Prakoso, said the examination of Pandji is scheduled for next week. ‘Next week (Pandji’s examination),’ he said when contacted by short message, Friday 6 March. ‘Monday,’ he added. Pandji had previously been questioned on Monday 2 February 2026. He admitted being subjected to 48 questions related to the report of alleged Toraja insult. Meanwhile in the Toraja customary court, Pandji was subjected to customary sanctions consisting of apologising to the ancestors and paying one pig and five chickens. The sanctions were imposed during the customary court process at Tongkonan Layuk Kaero, Sangalla, Tana Toraja, Tuesday 10 February. Pandji accepted with an open heart and apologised to the Toraja people. He promised to improve himself in the future and would not repeat similar mistakes in the future. Previously, the Toraja Youth Alliance reported comedian Pandji Pragiwaksono to Bareskrim Polri regarding alleged insulting and/or hate speech with SARA toward the Toraja community. Director of Cyber Crime Bareskrim Polri Brig-Gen Himawan Bayu Aji said he would consider the Toraja customary court’s result as Pandji’s actions align with living law (law that lives in society) with national criminal law. ‘Everything that has been done is concrete steps in line with living law. Then with the existence of national law and this is what we are investigating concurrently,’ he told reporters on Thursday 26 February. Therefore, Himawan said the ongoing customary court proceedings that Pandji has undergone will be taken into account in the case assessment to determine whether he can be charged as a suspect or not.
