Following the Promotion of the Regional Police Chief, the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Promises to Improve Public Services
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Head of Public Relations of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Budi Hermanto, affirmed that improvements in services to the public will continue to be made, regardless of the promotion of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief.
“Yes, of course (it will be improved). In fact, it’s the same; services must always be improved, regardless of rank,” Budi stated when met at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police headquarters on Friday (15/5/2026).
According to Budi, all members of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police are still required to adhere to the slogan of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief, Asep Edi Suheri, in providing services to the public.
Budi also said that in the future, the position of Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief will continue to be filled by members of the Indonesian National Police with the rank of three-star general.
“Yes, that’s correct, it will continue,” he said.
Meanwhile, a member of the National Police Commission (Kompolnas), Mohammad Choirul Anam, said that improving services is an important matter following the increase in the rank of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief.
“The Jakarta Metropolitan Police does have a different social, political, and economic dynamic compared to other regional police forces. Therefore, the increase in status from two-star to three-star must be accompanied by the best possible improvement in services,” Anam said in a statement.
Previously, information about the promotion of Asep Edi Suheri was announced through the official Instagram account of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police on Wednesday (13/5/2026).
“Congratulations and best wishes to Major General of Police Asep Edi Suheri, S.I.K., M.Si., for the promotion to the rank of Commissioner General of Police,” the statement read.
National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo previously stated that one of the reasons for Asep’s promotion was to align with the rank of the Commander of the Jaya Military Command, Deddy Suryadi, who had been promoted to a three-star general earlier.
