Following Prabowo's Visit, France Offers Export Financing to Indonesia
The Deputy Minister of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia, Juda Agung, alongside the Director General of the French Treasury, Bertrand Dumont, led the inaugural High-Level Economic Dialogue (HLED) Indonesia-France, held in Paris, France, on Tuesday (2/6/2026).
Juda stated that this first high-level economic dialogue serves as a significant milestone in strengthening the strategic partnership between the two nations, particularly in the economic and financial sectors. According to Juda, the convening of the first HLED is a follow-up to the deepening bilateral relations between Indonesia and France, following the state visit of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, to France on 28 May 2026.
The forum serves as a strategic platform for both countries to exchange views on global economic developments, strengthen economic cooperation, and explore various mutually beneficial collaboration opportunities. “In this dialogue, Indonesia and France discussed various strategic issues, including the economic prospects of both countries amidst increasing uncertainty and rapidly evolving global economic dynamics,” Juda said in an official statement on Wednesday (3/6/2026).
Both parties also exchanged views on shared priorities in multilateral cooperation, including the strengthening of global governance and the sustainable financing of critical minerals supply chains. Furthermore, discussions included various export financing instruments offered by France to support the strengthening of economic relations between the two nations, while simultaneously encouraging increased cooperation in priority sectors with significant potential for joint development.
As a member of the G20 and one of the founders of the European Union, France is one of the major economic powers in Europe and an important strategic partner for Indonesia. “The strong bilateral economic relationship between the two countries is reflected in France’s position as the second-largest investor from the European region in Indonesia,” said Juda.
Looking ahead, he emphasised that Indonesia-France economic and trade relations are expected to continue growing alongside increasing investment and trade cooperation. This prospect is further bolstered by the achievement of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between Indonesia and the European Union in September 202<0xC2>5, which is expected to open wider market access and increase trade and investment flows between both parties.
This strengthening of economic ties aligns with the commitment of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, and the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, to continue deepening the strategic partnership between the two nations. During the event, Indonesia and France reaffirmed their mutual commitment to continue strengthening the exchange of views and cooperation within the HLED framework. “Both parties also expressed hope that this high-level economic dialogue can serve as a sustainable platform to support increasingly close and productive bilateral economic relations, and look forward to the second HLED in the near future,” he explained.
