Following Prabowo's Promise to Meet KPK Needs, Setyo Budiyanto Moves to Inventory Human Resources and Budget

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has begun following up on President Prabowo Subianto’s commitment to meet the needs of law enforcement agencies to strengthen corruption eradication in Indonesia. KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto revealed that the agency will immediately inventory various requirements necessary to support its anti-corruption duties and functions. These needs include human resources, budget, and funding support for operational activities.

This move is a response to President Prabowo’s statement during the National Consolidation of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) Programme in Bogor Regency, West Java, a short while ago. On that occasion, the President emphasised his readiness to meet the needs of institutions involved in oversight and law enforcement, including the KPK.

KPK Begins Mapping Internal Needs

Setyo Budiytingo stated that the agency does not wish to rush its response to the President’s commitment. According to him, the KPK first needs to conduct a comprehensive mapping of the requirements truly needed to strengthen the agency’s performance.

“We will inventory what the needs are, whether from human resources, the budget, activity financing, and so on,” said Setyo Budiyanto. He noted that the inventory process will be conducted through internal discussions so that the needs subsequently presented to the government are truly in line with the agency’s conditions and priorities. Setyo emphasised that every proposal must undergo a mature process of study and evaluation before being decided.

Prabowo’s Statement Seen as Proof of Seriousness

In addition to welcoming the support expressed by the President, Setyo believes the commitment demonstrates the government’s seriousness in supporting the anti-corruption agenda. He mentioned that the President’s support is visible not only through public statements but also through the government’s attitude in providing space for the independence of law enforcement officials in performing their duties.

According to Setyo, one important indicator of this commitment is the absence of intervention in the law enforcement processes carried out by officials. “I am confident that his statement will be proven by several things. There is no intervention against law enforcement officials, the seriousness, and many things that have already been done,” he explained.
