Following PP Tunas, Roblox Mandates Age Verification and Differentiates Content by Age
Global gaming platform Roblox has started applying age verification features for users in Indonesia. This policy is implemented to meet the provisions of Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic Systems in Child Protection (PP Tunas). The Minister of Communication and Digital (Komdigi), Meutya Hafid, stated that the implementation of this policy is part of the government’s efforts to strengthen child protection in the digital space, including on gaming platforms. “Roblox is one of the platforms that has expressed a commitment to compliance after intensive discussions, considering its characteristics as a gaming platform that differs from social media,” Meutya said in an official statement received by KompasTekno on Friday (1/5/2026). The government appreciates Roblox’s step in beginning to implement several main features in accordance with PP Tunas provisions. Of around 45 million Roblox users in Indonesia, it is estimated that 23 million are children under 16 years old. Through this new system, users who do not undergo age verification will be categorised as child accounts. Consequently, communication features such as chat will be automatically disabled to prevent interactions with unknown parties. “For users who do not verify, communication features like chat will be automatically disabled. This is important to prevent interactions with unknown parties,” Meutya said. In addition, Roblox is also applying content access restrictions based on age groups. Users under 13 years old, ages 13 to 15, and over 16 will have different access to the available game catalogue. In terms of preventing addiction, Roblox is also introducing screen time settings that can be controlled by parents. This feature allows parents to set the duration and access times for children’s play. “The features we are presenting in Indonesia are among the strictest globally and are specifically tailored to Indonesia’s regulatory needs,” said Nicky. According to Nicky, parents will also gain full control over their child’s account activities without needing additional settings.
