Deputy Speaker of the House Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, in a statement in Jakarta on Friday, conveyed that this decision serves as an example of leadership from legislative figures in adhering to the central government’s directives on simplicity. Consequently, he will not hold an open house for the public at his residence.

The circular issued by Minister Secretary of State Prasetyo Hadi requests that all ministers and state officials refrain from excessive open house celebrations during Eid.

This circular follows President Prabowo Subianto’s instructions, reminding his entire apparatus to set a good example for the Indonesian people, especially given that many residents in Sumatra are still dealing with disaster conditions.

In addition to House leaders, officials from the Red and White Cabinet have taken similar steps. Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa publicly stated his absence from holding Idul Fitri celebrations, while joking that the decision to cancel the open house is an effort to economise.

Previously, President Prabowo Subianto asked ministers, agency heads, and the Red and White Cabinet not to conduct lavish open houses during Idul Fitri, following the national disaster and ongoing global crisis.

While leading the Full Cabinet Plenary Session at the State Palace in Jakarta on Friday (13/3), President Prabowo urged his aides to exemplify simplicity to society by not being excessive in holding open houses.

“I think we must set an example; open house or whatever, don’t make it too lavish. We’re in the midst of a disaster and this atmosphere, so we give an example to the people, but we also shouldn’t completely close all our events, because if we do, our economy won’t run,” said Prabowo.
