Following KRL vs Train Tragedy in Bekasi, City Government to Close Ampera–Bulak Kapal Crossing

BEKASI — The Bekasi City Government plans to permanently close several railway level crossings. This policy follows the accident between a KRL commuter train and a long-distance train that stemmed from an incident involving an electric taxi at the Bulak Kapal crossing on Monday night (27/4/2026). Bekasi Mayor Tri Adhianto stated that the closure will occur after the construction of a flyover in the Bulak Kapal area is completed. Tri explained that the plan still considers various aspects, from travel time efficiency to its impact on traffic flow in the surrounding area. “Road distribution is very limited, and everything will depend on them passing through Jalan Nonon Sonthanie near RS Bella. This will make it crowded, congested, and add a burden to the community,” he said. He mentioned that the flyover construction is targeted to be completed within six months, in line with instructions from President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto. “So if the funds are as stated by Mr President, there will be Banpres (Presidential Aid) which can immediately start the work,” he added. Previously, President Prabowo Subianto instructed a comprehensive investigation into the accident between the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek train from Gambir to Surabaya Pasar Turi and the KRL Commuter Line in East Bekasi, which killed 15 people. “Broadly speaking, we note that many of these railway crossings are not properly guarded. The Bekasi Regional Government has proposed building a flyover because Bekasi is also dense, and the need for railway infrastructure is very urgent,” Prabowo told the media at RSUD dr. Chasbullah Abdulmadjid in Bekasi City on Tuesday (28/4/2026). He stated that the central government has approved the construction of the flyover in the area, while highlighting the many level crossings on Java island that still lack adequate safety systems. “Broadly speaking, we note that many of these railway crossings are not properly guarded. Then in Java, there are 1,800 points that are also crossings like this,” said Prabowo. For this purpose, the government is preparing a budget of up to Rp 4 trillion. For information, the accident occurred between the Cikarang-bound KRL train number PLB 5568A and the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek train from Gambir to Surabaya Pasar Turi around 20:52 WIB on Monday (27/4/2026). The incident happened on the platform of East Bekasi Station, precisely at KM 28+920. The victims have been evacuated to several hospitals in the Bekasi area, including RSUD Bekasi, RS Bella Bekasi, RS Primaya, RS Mitra Plumbon Cibitung, RS Bhakti Kartini, RS Siloam East Bekasi, RS Hermina, as well as RS Mitra Keluarga East and West Bekasi.
