Following KRL Tragedy in East Bekasi, Ampera Crossing Now Equipped with Siren and Automatic Gates

BEKASI, KOMPAS.com - The Ampera Bulak Kapal level crossing in East Bekasi Subdistrict, Bekasi City, which was previously the site of an accident involving a Green SM taxi and a KRL commuter train, has now been fitted with automatic gates and a siren.

However, these facilities are not yet fully operational. The automatic gates were only trialled on Tuesday (12/5/2026) for about 10-15 minutes.

Full operations are still awaiting the construction of the direct crossing line guard post, which is estimated to be completed in the next two weeks to one month.

Motorists have started stopping when the manual gates are closed, and no vehicles appear to be forcing their way through the tracks when a train is approaching.

Currently, the Ampera crossing is still guarded by a combined team from the TNI, the Transportation Agency (Dishub), and local residents wearing crossing guard vests.

Several guards are visible on both sides of the tracks to manage vehicle flow and ensure road users stop when a train passes.

One motorcyclist, Yudi (25), believes the presence of automatic gates makes the crossing safer for road users.

“Especially here with help from the local Babinsa and Kamtibmas. So it’s even safer. Even though it’s still manual for now. At least it’s not using bamboo or whatever anymore,” he said.

Yudi admitted that he frequently passes through the crossing because his home is not far from the location.

He hopes that security will remain tight even after the automatic gates are officially operational.

“If it stays open, I hope it continues to be guarded because the gates alone aren’t enough; there needs to be someone to manage the traffic,” he stated.
