Following Central Government, South Tangerang City Implements WFH for Civil Servants Every Friday Starting Next Week
South Tangerang City Government will begin implementing a work-from-home (WFH) policy for civil servants (ASN) every Friday starting next week. The policy follows central government rules that stipulate one day of remote work per week for ASN. “We will implement WFH every Friday. This week is a public holiday, so Friday next week and onwards will be WFH,” said South Tangerang Mayor Benyamin Davnie when contacted by Kompas.com on Wednesday (1/4/2026). He stated that employees in public service sectors are still required to work from the office on Fridays. “Except for direct public services, which will continue as usual,” he said. In its implementation, the WFH policy will be supervised by each head of regional device organisation (OPD) and reported hierarchically. “Supervision is carried out by OPD heads and reported to the deputy mayor through the regional secretary,” he explained. This WFH policy also applies to government employees with work agreements (PPPK) within the South Tangerang City Government. “Regarding the number, I haven’t calculated it yet,” Benyamin remarked. Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto stated that the policy aims to promote work efficiency while continuing the flexible work patterns applied during the COVID-19 pandemic. Nevertheless, the government ensures that public services continue normally. Additionally, essential service units such as health, education, licensing, and disaster management are required to work from the office. Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian also emphasised that ASN implementing WFH must activate their mobile phones to be monitored via the geolocation system. This step ensures that ASN work from home in accordance with the provisions.
