Bekasi — Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA), Arifah Fauzi, has proposed relocating the position of the dedicated women’s carriage on the KRL Commuter Line to the middle of the train formation.

This proposal emerged following the train accident incident at Bekasi Timur Station on Monday night (27/4/2026).

Arifah conveyed the proposal after inspecting the condition of the victims, particularly passengers in the women’s carriage located at the end of the formation, which was directly affected by the collision with the Long-Distance Train (KAJJ) Argo Bromo Anggrek.

She assessed that the positions at the front and rear ends of the train are more risky in the event of an accident. Therefore, according to her, those sections should be occupied by general passengers or men to minimise fatalities among vulnerable groups.

“So men at the ends. The front and back for men, so women in the middle,” she stated.

“Not yet (further discussions), this is still the main evacuation process, rescue for the victims. Earlier, I spoke with the Director of KAI, and we proposed it,” said Arifah.

During the inspection, Arifah noted that at least 55 victims were referred to Bekasi City Hospital.

“Information indicates 55 were referred to the hospital, 3 people deceased, then 15 have returned home, and the rest we saw some victims with average conditions of bruises, but also fractures in several parts,” explained Arifah.

She also admitted to being surprised because there were male victims in the incident, even though the affected carriage was the dedicated women’s carriage.

Arifah emphasised that the Ministry of PPPA will continue to provide assistance to the victims, both in terms of medical care and psychological recovery. She also assured that victims will not be burdened with treatment costs.

“The assistance we provide is not only in medical matters, but recovery both physically and psychologically, because we see some experiencing trauma and this requires special assistance,” she said.

Previously, the collision occurred between the Cikarang-bound KRL number PLB 5568A and the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek on the Gambir–Surabaya Pasar Turi route on Monday night around 20:52 WIB. The incident location was on the platform at Bekasi Timur Station KM 28+920.
