Following Attacks on Iran, US Urges Citizens in Middle East to Remain Vigilant
The United States has released a new security warning for its citizens in the Middle East region, following the recent resurgence of hostilities against Iran. Washington authorities have urged citizens in the area to increase their level of vigilance.
The latest security alert, as reported by Al Arabiya and Middle National Monitor on Wednesday (2/9/2026), was issued to almost all US Embassies in the Middle East, including those in Israel, on Tuesday (1/9) local time.
“Due to tensions in the Middle East, the security situation remains complex with the potential for unexpected escalation,” stated the US Department of State in its security warning.
“American citizens currently in the Middle East must increase vigilance and be aware of the possibility of flight cancellations, airspace closures, and travel disruptions,” the US Department of State’s advisory read.
“American citizens travelling to and from the region should monitor information regarding airport and airline operations,” the advisory added.
The US Department of State warned of the possibility of attacks targeting US interests abroad. It was noted that US diplomatic facilities, including those outside the Middle East, have become targets.
“Iran and its proxy groups may target US interests abroad or locations associated with the United States and American citizens worldwide, including US businesses and other institutions,” the US Department of State stated in its security warning.
This security alert was released after the US Central Command (CENTCOM), which oversees US military operations in the Middle East, announced that US forces had completed a recent wave of attacks against Iranian military targets.
CENTCOM reported that the strikes targeted Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) units that threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, including air defence locations, radar systems, mine-laying assets, communication facilities, anti-ship cruise missile launchers, and combat drone launchers.
US officials stated that approximately 100 Iranian targets were struck on Tuesday (1/9) local time.
In retaliation, Iran has launched approximately 25 ballistic missiles, as well as drone attacks, against US bases located in Jordan, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Erbil in Iraq. Tehran is also reported to have sent two dozen drones to US bases in Bahrain.
US forces reportedly managed to intercept the majority of these Iranian retaliatory attacks.
According to a US official, 10 Iranian missiles were intercepted in Jordanian airspace, with three other missiles falling to the ground without causing any casualties.
