Prominent entrepreneur and major shareholder of the Saratoga group, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, is planning to invest in PT Mutuagung Lestari Tbk (MUTU), which is currently strengthening its business focus on the green economy sector.

President Director of PT Mutuagung Lestari Tbk, Arifin Lambaga, stated that both parties share a similar view regarding the importance of sustainability as the foundation for future economic development.

‘We have a unified platform of thought that green is one of the goals of all activities undertaken,’ said Arifin in a written statement on Friday.

He explained that the green economy is now not only a regulatory requirement but has evolved into a necessity for the business world and society, resting on three main pillars: the environment, welfare, and community.

According to Arifin, this shared vision opens up broader business development opportunities in the sustainability sector. MUTU, he said, is also undergoing a service transformation, including environmental certification, ESG, halal, and various global sustainability standards. ‘We want to be more than just a TIC company. We want to be a green partner,’ he stated.

Arifin added that the presence of an investor committed to sustainable development can accelerate the company’s transformation and expand the benefits of the green economy for society, including small business players. He also highlighted Sandiaga Uno’s experience in entrepreneurship programmes, which is seen as capable of broadening public access to sustainable economic opportunities.

Meanwhile, Sandiaga Uno assessed that sustainability is now a crucial factor in investment and corporate competitiveness, no longer viewed as an additional cost. According to him, companies that can help business players adapt to sustainability standards will have strong growth prospects in the future.

He believes MUTU holds a strategic position as a certification service provider at the centre of industrial transformation towards sustainable business practices, including the implementation of ESG, the carbon economy, and green supply chains. ‘Credible verification and certification are the foundation of market trust,’ said Sandiaga.

Moreover, he continued, Indonesia has significant opportunities in green economy development, especially in the palm oil, biofuel, biomass, and manufacturing sectors, which are currently facing increasingly stringent global standard demands.
