Flower Sellers in Central Lombok Reap Idul Fitri Blessings
Muslims in Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), conducted grave visits during the Idul Fitri 1447 Hijriah holiday. The nyekar tradition has brought blessings to flower sellers in Praya, Central Lombok.
Observations showed flower sellers lining up along the Praya-Mujur route around 11:00 WITA on Saturday (21/3/2026). They set up stalls from in front of the Bank NTB Syariah office eastward to in front of the Praya Jamiq Mosque.
“We sell flowers every Eid like this,” said one flower seller, I Putu Mustika (46), on Saturday.
Mustika explained that most of these flower sellers are her fellow Hindus living in Central Lombok. According to her, Hindus and Muslims there respect each other and prioritise religious tolerance.
“Because however you look at it, we live in the same area. So we mutually respect each other’s beliefs,” said Mustika.
Mustika sells scattered flowers priced from Rp 2,000 to Rp 10,000. “On average, people buy more than one plastic bag. One plastic bag is Rp 2,000,” she added.
Another trader, Wulan (27), said that flower sales this Eid were slightly down from the previous year. This was because she could only start selling after completing the Nyepi holiday series.
“Last year, we started selling from H-5 before Eid. But yesterday we were busy with Nyepi preparations,” said Wulan.
According to Wulan, buyers usually keep coming until just before the Lebaran ketupat celebration or a week after Idul Fitri. She noted that people in Central Lombok typically visit nearby graves on the first day.
“Usually two to four days have many buyers. Because on the first day, it’s more dominant to go for silaturahmi (visiting family). So, visiting distant family graves is done on the following days,” she concluded.
