Flores Northern Ring Road Project Targeted for Completion by 2031
The construction of the Flores North Ring Road is being carried out in phases and is targeted for completion in 2031. This year, only around 10 kilometres of the 141.291-kilometre road could be worked on.
This was disclosed during a recess working visit by the Deputy Chairman of Commission V of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), Andi Iwan Darmawan Aras, and his delegation in West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), on Wednesday (22/7/2026). The parliamentary agenda was accompanied by NTT Deputy Governor Johni Asadoma, West Manggarai Regent Edistasius Endi, and the Head of the NTT National Road Implementation Centre (BPJN), Janto.
“The total budget requirement for the physical construction of the Flores North Ring Road is estimated to reach Rp 1,079.45 billion (Rp 1.07 trillion),” said Janto, as he presented the progress of the road construction project to the Commission V DPR RI recess working visit team in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, NTT, on Wednesday.
The road serves as an alternative route from Reo to Labuan Bajo via the Labuan Bajo-Terang-Pelabuhan Bari-Kedindi section. The infrastructure is also expected to be a key supporter of access to the super-priority tourism destination of Labuan Bajo. The project also includes the construction of a number of bridges.
Janto explained that 53.875 km of the total road length has already been asphalted. A further 10.776 km has been handled through road improvements, 43.515 km remains as dirt/foot track, and 33.125 km consists of sections that have yet to be breached.
“This means there are still 87.416 km of road sections requiring asphalting,” he added.
The Flores North Ring Road construction project is one of the national strategic projects (PSN) coordinated by the Directorate General of Highways at the Ministry of Public Works. Since 2015, the Directorate General of Highways has handled the 78.55 km Labuan Bajo-Terang-Pelabuhan Bari-Kedindi section at a total value of approximately Rp 165.43 billion.
Andi Iwan Darmawan Aras, head of the Commission V DPR RI recess working visit team, revealed that the acceleration of the road’s construction depends heavily on land readiness. He urged the local government to resolve land issues so that the road project can be put to use as soon as possible.
“That way, the implementation of construction will no longer be hampered and the allocated budget can be realised immediately,” said Andi Iwan.
“The aim is for the benefits to be felt by the public as soon as possible, to strengthen inter-regional connectivity, and to promote equitable development and economic growth on the island of Flores,” he added.
