The death toll from the 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck Flores Island, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), has risen to 55 people. This figure is based on data collection completed on Saturday (16/8/2026) at 18.00 Central Indonesia Time.

“Based on data received at the NTT Regional Police command post up to 18.00 Central Indonesia Time, the number of fatalities stands at 55, with 67 seriously injured and 127 lightly injured,” said NTT Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Darmoko during a press conference at his office on Sunday evening (16/8/2026).

Rudi stressed that the figures remain dynamic and will change as search and evacuation efforts progress on the ground. According to him, the number of displaced persons has reached more than 7,870 people spread across 38 evacuation posts. “They are spread across seven affected regencies,” Rudi explained.

The areas hardest hit, Rudi said, are Manggarai and East Manggarai. The largest number of evacuees is in East Manggarai, reaching 7,300 people, while Manggarai has 2,900. “These figures are still dynamic and will continue to develop,” Rudi explained.
