The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has recorded 142 deaths resulting from the M 7.7 earthquake in Flores, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), on Saturday (15/08/2026). However, the highest number of fatalities occurred within displacement camps.

The Acting Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Centre, Berton SP Panjaitan, stated that while the earthquake caused 142 deaths, the number of direct casualties from the earthquake itself was only around 48 people.

“The number of victims who died directly due to the earthquake was 4/8, but indirectly, there were 94 deaths in the displacement camps,” he said during an online press conference on Tuesday (15/09/2026).

He added that there are currently 46,046 people displaced due to the earthquake in Flores, NTT. This figure represents a decrease compared to previous reports.

“The number of refugees has dropped significantly; previously it reached over 150,000, but now it is only 46,046 people,” said Berton.

BNPB noted that the total number of houses reported damaged by the earthquake has reached 103,427 units. However, the BNPB will continue to conduct verification to confirm the extent of the damage.

“Our team is currently conducting validation and verification of the data regarding this damage, as we also need to obtain specific details, including the names and addresses of the owners of each house,” he said.

Separately, President Prabowo Subianto acknowledged that many communities across various regions of Indonesia remain affected. However, he ensured that both central and regional governments are actively involved in field operations.

“Many of our brothers and sisters in various places are still experiencing difficulties due to the natural disasters faced, but the entire central, regional, provincial, and regency governments, along with all agencies, have proven to be working well together to face all challenges and difficulties,” he said at the Manggarai LRT Station on Wednesday (16/09/2026).
