Floods Submerge Three Villages in West Aceh, BPBD Deploys Personnel
The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of West Aceh Regency has begun deploying personnel following flash floods that have submerged several villages in the Pante Ceureumen District. Water levels were reported to be between 20 and 49 centimetres due to high rainfall over the past two days.
Acting Head of the West Aceh Regency BPBD, Teuku Ronal Nehdiansyah, confirmed that the floods began inundating residential areas on Sunday evening. Based on preliminary data, the affected areas include Gampong Canggai, Gampong Lawet, and Gampong Seumantok.
“This flash flood occurred due to the high rainfall over the last two days. This condition triggered a rise in the water level of the Meureubo River (Krueng) until it overflowed into residential areas,” Teuku Ronal told reporters on Sunday evening.
According to BPBD’s field observations, the inundation is currently at a level reaching the ankles to the calves of adults. Although water has entered the yards and some residents’ homes, the general situation is still considered relatively safe and under control.
As of the time of reporting, there have been no reports of residents evacuating to emergency posts. Residents in the affected areas are choosing to remain in their homes while securing their valuables in higher places.
As a precautionary measure, the West Aceh BPBD has positioned personnel at vulnerable points to monitor water levels periodically. Coordination with sub-district authorities and village officials is being continuously strengthened to ensure the safety of residents.
Teuku Ronal added that his team would continue to update data regarding the extent of the affected area and to collect data on the total number of households experiencing material losses due to this disaster.
“We remain on standby in the field. Data updates will be carried out periodically in line with developments in weather conditions and the situation at the flood locations,” he concluded.
