Floods submerge 30 homes and 5.5 hectares of land in Mandailing Natal

The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has reported that flooding caused by overflowing river water in Mandailing Natal Regency, North Sumatra, has submerged at least 30 residential homes and approximately 5.5 hectares of land in the area.

The incident was triggered by light to moderate intensity rainfall that occurred from around 06.00 WIB to 08.00 WIB, according to Abdul Muhari, Head of the BNPB Data, Information and Communication Centre for Disaster, in a statement received in Jakarta on Friday.

The BNPB Operations Control Centre reported, based on field data, that the floods affected areas spread across two sub-districts, namely Kotanopan Sub-district and Tambangan Sub-district. In Kotanopan Sub-district, the overflowing water reportedly submerged residential areas in Pasar Kotanopan Urban Village and Saba Dolok Village. Meanwhile, within the Tambangan Sub-district area, floodwaters were reported to have hit residential areas in Lumban Pasir Village.

Abdul confirmed that personnel from the Mandailing Natal Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) are already at the affected locations to conduct assessment operations, data collection, and coordination with local village officials.

Based on the latest conditions, the floodwaters have gradually begun to recede. Nevertheless, monitoring and impact data collection are still being carried out by the BPBD to ensure the needs of the affected community can be properly addressed.
