Floods Still Submerging 46 Neighbourhoods in East Jakarta

The Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) has recorded that 46 Neighbourhood Units (RT) in East Jakarta remain flooded following heavy rain and the overflow of several rivers (kali). “The cause of the flooding is high rainfall intensity and the overflow of the Cipinang River, Cilangkap River, and Sunter River,” said the Head of BPBD Jakarta, Isnawa Adji, in Jakarta on Sunday. According to him, as of 10:00 WIB, the number of RTs still submerged by flooding reached 46, with water heights of 30-80 centimetres (cm). Isnawa explained that the flooding was caused by heavy rain that struck the DKI Jakarta area and its surroundings on Saturday (21/3), leading to a rise in water levels at the Pesanggrahan Post to Alert Level 3 at 18:00 WIB. Then, at the Cipinang Hulu Post to Alert Level 3 at 18:00 WIB, Sunter Hulu Post to Alert Level 2 at 18:00 WIB, and Krukut Hulu Post to Alert Level 3 at 19:00 WIB, causing pooling in the DKI Jakarta area. BPBD Jakarta has deployed personnel to monitor the pooling conditions in each area and coordinate with the Water Resources Agency (Dinas SDA), Public Works Agency (Dinas Bina Marga), and Environmental and Landscaping Agency (Dinas Gulkarmat) to carry out pumping of the pooling water and ensure that the water barriers are functioning properly. The following are the 46 RTs in East Jakarta still affected by flooding: Cilangkap Ward: 5 RTs; Munjul Ward: 2 RTs; Cibubur Ward: 6 RTs; Ciracas Ward: 16 RTs; Cipinang Muara Ward: 2 RTs; Dukuh Ward: 5 RTs; Cipinang Melayu Ward: 6 RTs; Baru Ward: 1 RT; Pekayon Ward: 2 RTs.
