Residents’ settlements in Kebon Pala, Kampung Melayu, East Jakarta, were inundated by flooding on Friday morning (17/4/2026) with water levels reaching approximately 100-110 centimetres (cm), or more than one metre. “This morning at 06.00 WIB, the water has now reached about one metre, and it has been rising since early this morning,” said Sanusi, Head of RT 13/RW 04 Kampung Melayu, when contacted in Jakarta on Friday. Sanusi explained that the flooding was caused by rainfall that began on Thursday (16/4) night. The water levels continued to increase until morning, submerging residents’ homes in the low-lying area. He mentioned that heavy rain has been falling almost every day recently, particularly in the afternoons and evenings. “The water started rising around 2 a.m., probably due to yesterday’s rain. Indeed, it rains almost every day, usually in the afternoon,” said Sanusi. According to him, flooding in the Kebon Pala area has been recurring over the past few days. The ongoing rain pattern makes it difficult for water to recede properly, causing it to rise again when heavy rain falls.
