Floods kill three in S. Sulawesi

MAKASSAR, South Sulawesi: Three people were found dead in Bone district, South Sulawesi, following three days of flooding.

The victims from Awangtangka village in Kajuara subdistrict were identified as Dahlia Beddua, Petta Esa and his grandchild, Antara news agency reported on Wednesday.

Floodwaters inundated several parts of Kajuara subdistrict on the border between the districts of Bone and Sinjai after the Manggottong, Tangka and Tobunne rivers overflowed their banks following three days of heavy rain.

The three bodies were found in Pangkalan Kayu village 10 hours after they were swept away by strong currents, local residents said.

The flooding also blocked the roads connecting Soppeng and the town of Sengkang in Waju district. -- JP
