Floods kill three
BANYUMAS, Central Java: Three people were killed and at least
52 houses were damaged when torrential rain caused flash floods
and landslides in three districts here.
The incessant rain, which began on Sunday, has caused
landslides in three districts over the past three days.
Antara reported that the victims were Darmi, 61, and her
eight-year-old grandson, Tono, from Banjarnegara and Winarsih,
10, from Banyumas district.
However, the body of Winarsih has yet to be found as she was
in her house when floods swept it away.
In Cilacap district, 85 people were evacuated from their homes
due to the ensuing floods.
A spokesman of Cilacap administration, Didi Ruwanto, said
material losses from the disaster were estimated at Rp 22 million
(US$3,143). (04)
