Floods Inundate Two Hamlets in Agam Regency After Rivers Overflow

The Agam Regency Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) reported that two hamlets in Nagari Sungai Batang, Tanjung Raya District, were flooded on Monday afternoon after the Batang Kumayo and Batang Rangeh rivers overflowed. The affected areas are Jorong Kubu and Jorong Nagari. In Jorong Kubu, floodwaters from the Batang Kumayo River inundated roads to a depth of approximately 30 centimetres. Meanwhile, water levels in the Batang Rangeh River at Jorong Nagari rose but the situation remained relatively under control. BPBD Agam Head Rahmat Lasmono stated that his office had not yet received data on the number of affected houses or displaced residents. The Nagari Sungai Batang government has urged residents to remain alert and evacuate to safer locations if necessary. BPBD has also readied personnel to assist affected communities. Lasmono noted that the area is prone to flooding after a major flash flood in late November 2026 left the Batang Kumayo and Batang Rangeh rivers clogged with debris. He added that the River Basin Agency (BWS) V Padang is currently carrying out normalisation work on the Batang Kumayo River to mitigate future flooding.
