Floods inundate four villages in Bone Bolango, one person swept away by currents
The flood and landslide disaster that struck Bone Bolango Regency in Gorontalo Province has affected four villages, with one resident reported swept away.
“There was one victim who was swept away by landslide debris into the sea. Thank God, the victim was found safe,” said Bone Bolango Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Acting Head Achril Yoan Babyonggo in a statement on Wednesday (27 May).
The disaster occurred on Tuesday (26 May) due to heavy rainfall in Bone Bolango Regency, triggering soil movement and flooding that impacted residential areas.
“Intense, continuous heavy rain fell in the area. The peak was at 10 PM WITA when flash floods and landslides submerged residential areas,” he added.
As a result, BPBD recorded at least 35 houses flooded, including one house completely destroyed by floodwaters.
“Currently, all family members of the victim and other affected residents, totalling 35 households or 105 people, have been evacuated to a shelter located in Dusun 3 of the local village,” he said.
BPBD noted that the floods and landslides affected four villages: Muara Bone (50 people), Moodulio (97 people), Taludaa (100 people), and Masiaga (10 people).
