Floods in South and East Jakarta: 32 Neighbourhoods Submerged Until Monday Afternoon

Floods continue to submerge 32 neighbourhood units (RT) in South Jakarta (Jaksel) and East Jakarta (Jaktim) until Monday (20/4) afternoon.

Head of the Data and Information Centre for Disasters at the DKI Jakarta BPBD, Mohamad Yohan, stated that the flooding was caused by heavy rain and the overflow of the Ciliwung and Pesanggrahan rivers.

“The flooding that has submerged 32 RT in South Jakarta and East Jakarta was caused by heavy rain that hit the DKI Jakarta area and surroundings on Sunday (19/4), resulting in rising water levels at the Pesanggrahan Post, which reached Alert Level 3 status at 20:00 WIB,” he said, quoted from Antara.

Additionally, Alert Level 3 status also occurred at the Katulampa Dam at 21:00 WIB, the Depok Monitoring Post at 22:00 WIB, and the Angke Hulu Post at 23:00 WIB. This situation then led to several inundations in the DKI Jakarta area.

“For the flood heights, they range from 30 centimetres (cm) to 1.7 metres,” Yohan said.

Currently, he said, handling efforts have been carried out by the DKI BPBD, by deploying personnel to monitor the inundation conditions in each area.

In addition, they are coordinating with the Water Resources Department, the Public Works Department, and the Fire and Rescue Department (Gulkarmat) to carry out pumping of the inundations and ensure that the water barriers are functioning properly.

“The inundations are targeted to recede quickly,” Yohan emphasised.

South Jakarta: 10 RT

Pondok Pinang Ward: 4 RT

Pengadegan Ward: 2 RT

Rawajati Ward: 1 RT

Pejaten Timur Ward: 3 RT

Water height: 40-120 cm

Cause: Overflow of the Ciliwung River and overflow of the Pesanggrahan River

East Jakarta: 22 RT

Bidara Cina Ward: 2 RT

Kampung Melayu Ward: 8 RT

Cawang Ward: 7 RT

Cililitan Ward: 5 RT

Height: 30-175 cm

Cause: Overflow of the Ciliwung River
