Metro TV screened at 8 p.m. on Jan. 27 an interview by phone
with Kwik Kian Gie, who commented on the floods affecting
Jakarta. He said the floods were inseparable from corruption,
collusion and nepotism (KKN) in the past. Jakarta's spatial
layout has been encroached upon by developers' interests.

A government official who has the authority to issue permits
told a press conference that developers had reported they carried
out environmental impact studies when building housing complexes.
The official even boasted that developers were prepared to be
"hung" if their projects resulted in negative outcomes. Kwik
disclosed that he had asked for the re-opening of all files on
Jakarta's spatial layout to ensure an appropriate follow-up.
