Heavy rainfall triggered flooding in Boalemo Regency on Thursday (18/6) at around 12.30 WITA. Although the inundation was reported to have gradually receded on the same day, the flood left behind debris in the affected areas.

The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported that floodwaters which hit Boalemo Regency, Gorontalo Province, have now gradually receded, leaving piles of debris in residential areas.

Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Centre, Abdul Muhari, stated on Friday that the flooding was triggered by high-intensity rainfall that fell over the area from afternoon through the night.

Abdul explained that based on rapid assessment data from the Boalemo Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the flooding simultaneously submerged residential areas across two sub-districts. The inundation points were identified in Diloato Village in Paguyaman District, and three villages in Wonosari District, including Harapan Village, Mekar Jaya Village, and Bongo Tua Village.

According to reports received by the BNPB Operations Control Centre, the overflow directly impacted settlements inhabited by at least 172 families, equivalent to 486 individuals.

"A total of 155 residential houses, one government office, and one educational facility were temporarily submerged," Abdul said, urging the local BPBD, relevant agencies, and the community to immediately work together to clean up the debris and remain alert to the potential for subsequent rainfall to anticipate post-disaster disease threats.
