Two districts in Langkat Regency, North Sumatra, were hit by floods on Monday (5/10/2026). The flooding was triggered by high rainfall in the upstream river areas, causing water levels to rise and rivers to overflow.

The Head of Emergency Response, Equipment, and Logistics at the North Sumatra Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Sri Wahyuni Pancasilawati, stated that the floods occurred in two districts: Wampu and Kuala.

“Flooding has occurred in two districts, namely Wampu and Kuala, caused by high rainfall in the upstream river areas,” said Sri Wahyuni on Tuesday (6/10).

In Wampu District, flooding was reported in Besilam Bukit Lembasa Village. The flood conditions have also impacted resident access, as the connecting bridge for Dusun 1 Besilam/BL is temporarily impassable.

“Meanwhile, flooding has also occurred in the Kuala District area. The local government, along with disaster response officers, is still conducting handling operations in the affected locations,” she explained.

As of Tuesday (6/10), there have been no reports of fatalities or injuries resulting from the floods. The number of displaced residents is currently being processed and recorded.

“The Langkat Regency Government has coordinated with local authorities and is conducting assessments in several affected locations. The Langkat Regency BPBD team has also been deployed to the site to carry out evacuations if the situation requires,” she added.

North Sumatra BPBD is also coordinating with the Langkat Regency BPBD regarding disaster management and monitoring conditions in the affected areas. Currently, the flood situation remains under the management of the local government.

“The community is urged to remain vigilant regarding the possibility of rising water levels, especially if rain returns to the upstream areas,” she concluded.
