Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds that had been ongoing since Monday (February 23, 2026), caused several hotels and homestays in the Mandalika Special Economic Zone (KEK), Kuta Village, Pujut District, Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), to be hit by floods, on Tuesday (February 24, 2026) afternoon. A number of foreign tourists staying there appeared to panic as they tried to save themselves.

The incident occurred at around 11:45 am local time after heavy rain accompanied by strong winds hit the Mandalika area. Footage of the floods showing a number of people trying to save themselves and their belongings circulated on social media.

The high rainfall caused an increase in water flow from the hills and the overflowing of drainage channels that could not accommodate the volume of water, resulting in flooding in a number of roads and residential areas.

In Kuta I Village, a tree fell in front of Starbucks Kuta Mandalika and was immediately cut and cleaned by the Basarnas team together with officers on the ground.

In addition, water as high as approximately 60 cm inundated Jalan Gang Jivana Resort. Flooding also occurred in front of JM Hotel Kuta Lombok at a height of 20 cm and in the alley beside the hotel reaching 50 cm.

In Baturiti Village, water flooded Jalan Gang Sriwulan at a height of 60 cm, Gang Yulis Homestay 20 cm, and Gang Sawe 50 cm. Meanwhile, in Mengalung Village, the overflowing water caused the collapse of a wall of one of the residents’ houses and flooded several vehicles belonging to residents. Flooding as high as 30 cm was also observed in Gang Bochan Hostel.

The same condition occurred in Merendeng Village with flooding reaching 60 cm in a number of residential areas. In Rangkap I Village, overflowing water mixed with mud as high as 60 cm occurred on Jalan By Pass Pariwisata Kuta-Awang, right in front of Dewi Homestay, and 50 cm in Kampung Homestay.

Meanwhile, in Sekar Kuning Village, overflowing water mixed with mud was also observed on Jalan Raya By Pass Kuta, right in front of RM Padang.

The Head of the Mandalika Area Police, Iptu Kadek Angga Nambara, said that in the incident there were no casualties or injuries. However, there was material loss in the form of damage to residents’ buildings, vehicles being flooded, and traffic flow being temporarily disrupted in several locations.

“This incident was triggered by heavy rain accompanied by strong winds which caused an increase in water flow and clogged drainage. Kuta Village is indeed one of the areas that is routinely affected during the rainy season with high intensity,” said Angga to detikBali, Tuesday night.

So far, Angga said, the water condition in most of the affected areas has gradually receded and traffic flow has started to return to normal. He said that personnel from the Mandalika Area Police together with related agencies continue to monitor to anticipate the potential for further extreme weather.

“We urge all people, especially those in areas prone to flooding and near rivers or hills, to remain vigilant,” he said.

“Make sure the drainage channels in their respective environments are not clogged, avoid taking shelter under trees during strong winds, and reduce activities outside the home if heavy rain accompanied by lightning occurs,” he added.

Eight Sub-districts Affected by Floods and Landslides

The NTB Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) recorded that there are eight sub-districts in Central Lombok affected by floods and landslides. The Head of the NTB BPBD, Sadimin, said that floods were reported to have occurred in several areas most affected in Central Lombok. In Pujut District, flooding inundated Kuta Village, Pengembur Village, and Bangket Parak Village.

In addition, floods also occurred in Beleka Village, Janapria District, then Ganti Village, Praya Timur District, and also occurred in Tanak Rarang Village, Praya Barat District. Meanwhile, a landslide was reported to have occurred in Pandan Indah Village, Praya Barat District.

“Rain with moderate to heavy intensity triggered overflowing rivers and drainage, and caused landslides in a number of locations,” said Sadimin in Mataram on Tuesday, (February 24, 2026).

The NTB BPBD, said Sadimin, is collecting data on the impact of damage and the number of residents affected. Officers on the ground are also continuing to collect data as a basis for further handling.

Efforts to handle the situation are carried out through coordination between the NTB Province BPBD and the Lombok Tengah Regency BPBD together with a number of policymakers.

“For residents and infrastructure affected, it is still being recorded,” he said.

The Central Lombok Regency BPBD’s Rapid Response Team (TRC) has been deployed to the location to carry out initial handling and collect information regarding the impact of the disaster. In addition, the process of reporting and disseminating appeals to be careful to the public is also ongoing.

The handling on the ground also involves personnel from the Lombok Tengah Fire Department, sub-district officials, and local village officials.

Sadimin explained that the BPBD identified urgent needs in the form of emergency logistics assistance for affected residents. As of the latest report, flooding is still inundating a number of areas and has not completely receded.

“The current condition is that flooding is still inundating the affected areas,” he said.

For this reason, the BPBD appealed to the public to increase vigilance against the potential for extreme weather, especially during the peak of the rainy season in the third decade of February 2026.

“There is the potential for heavy rain in the third decade of February 2026, so the public is expected to be vigilant against the potential for extreme weather events that can trigger hydrometeorological disasters such as strong winds, floods and landslides that can occur suddenly,” he said.

The impact of the floods in Central Lombok included 20 households affected in Kuta Village, 64 households in Pengembur Village, Pujut District and 233 households affected in Bilelando Village, Praya Timur District.

In Pandan Indah Village, Praya Barat District, 1 household was affected by a landslide. In addition, in Batukliang Utara District, Seteling Village, 1 house was damaged. In Praya District.
