Floods hit Bali, one person dies

DENPASAR, Bali: One person died and two others were injured,
when a flood hit hundreds of houses in four villages in South
Denpasar subdistrict after two days of heavy rain.

The Antara news agency reported yesterday that Komang Juniati,
a student of Junior High School 5, died in the flood. It also
said that two people were injured when a tree fell on top of
them.

A spokesman for Badung regency, I Gusti Ngurah Wirandjaja,
said the flood occurred because garbage clogged the sluice gates
at the Suwung dam estuary. Workers of the local public works
office will soon clean the sluice gates, he said. (swe)
