Heavy rainfall of high intensity has drenched Makassar City, South Sulawesi, causing flooding at multiple points across five sub-districts.

“Rapid Response Teams have been deployed to carry out monitoring, evacuation, and assistance for affected residents,” said Makassar Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) head Muhammad Fadli on Tuesday (24 February).

Muhammad said the flood points currently being monitored are in Tello Baru Village, Panakukkang Sub-district, as well as in the Kodam III Complex in Biringkanaya Sub-district, Manggala Sub-district, Tamalanrea Sub-district, and Tallo Sub-district.

“The highest water levels are in Panakukkang Sub-district at approximately 100 centimetres, whilst the others are only around 30 centimetres,” he said.

Fadli stated that the overall situation remains safe and under control, but urged the public to remain vigilant, avoid routes with deep flooding, and immediately report emergency conditions to Makassar City BPBD services.

Floods engulf multiple areas in Bali

Flooding has also engulfed numerous areas across Bali. Multiple locations have experienced hydrological disasters including landslides, flooding, and fallen trees.

BPBD Bali chief executive I Gede Agung Teja Bhusana Yadnya said that as of Tuesday at 12:00 WITA, 76 incidents had been recorded.

“There are 42 flood points, 5 landslide points, 1 breached embankment, 1 tornado incident, 2 fallen tree points, and 4 collapsed retaining wall points,” said Agung Teja.

He explained that in Gianyar Regency there were 4 fallen tree points and 1 landslide point. In Buleleng Regency, there were 2 fallen tree points and 2 landslide points. In Tabanan Regency, there were 2 fallen tree points, 2 flood points, and 1 landslide point.

In Denpasar City, there were 30 flood points, 2 fallen tree points, 1 breached embankment, 1 tornado incident, 1 landslide point, and 1 collapsed retaining wall. In Badung Regency, there were 10 flood points and 2 fallen tree points. Klungkung Regency recorded 1 fallen tree point, Jembrana Regency 1 fallen tree point, and Karangasem Regency 9 fallen tree points and 3 collapsed retaining walls.

Regarding flood response efforts on Jalan Dewi Sarawati II, Seminyak, Badung Regency, 30 people were evacuated by officers. Evacuation efforts were also underway on Jalan Dewi Sarawati III, Seminyak.

On Jalan Gunung Athena II, Seminyak, Badung, 10 people were evacuated. On Jalan Campuhan II, Legian Kuta, flood response and evacuation operations were still ongoing. On Jalan Hang Tuah, Gang Mawar, Sanur, Denpasar City, flood response and evacuation continued. On Jalan Gurita IV, Gang Cumi-cumi, Sesetan, Denpasar, officers evacuated 1 infant and 3 toddlers trapped by floodwaters.

On Jalan Bumi Ayu, Sanur, flood response and guest evacuation was being handled by Bali Regional Police. A landslide struck Pura Taman Beji temple on Jalan Seroja Gang Nenas, Denpasar, with response being managed by Denpasar City BPBD.

A collapsed residential retaining wall on Jalan Jepun Pipil in the East Gatsu area of Denpasar was being attended to by BPBD Bali, BPBD Denpasar, and local authorities.

“Thirty people have been evacuated. Data collection on damaged and submerged buildings is ongoing. Water levels in Tukad Badung are being monitored, and all floodgates near the downstream sections of major rivers in Denpasar City are confirmed to be monitored and open,” he said.
