We have also written to the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) to request ready-to-eat food aid.

East Lombok (ANTARA) – The East Lombok Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province, stated that the initial response to the impact of the floods is focused on providing ready-to-eat food aid, as this is what the flood victims need.

“The initial assistance needed by the community is ready-to-eat food,” said the Acting Head of BPBD East Lombok, Rifaan, in East Lombok, Wednesday.

He said that after the urgent logistical needs are met, they will address the causes of the floods and the steps taken to alleviate the flooding in the East Lombok region.

“We have also written to the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) for ready-to-eat food aid,” he said.

“Currently, the worst affected area is the Jerowaru sub-district,” said Rifaan.

Of the several villages in the Jerowaru sub-district that experienced the worst flooding, he said, they were in Dusun Sungkun, Ekas Buana village, which is currently still flooded, and the villages of Serewe, Pandanwangi, and Wakan, in the Jerowaru sub-district.

“Dozens of families had to be evacuated to safe places,” he said.

“We do not yet know exactly how many families have been evacuated because data collection is still underway,” he said.

Extreme weather that occurred from Monday (23 February) to Wednesday (25 February) caused several areas in East Lombok Regency to be hit by floods, causing river water to overflow and enter the yards of residents’ houses.

“We urge the public to remain vigilant during extreme weather events that occur suddenly,” he said.
