The Bone Bolango Regency Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) in Gorontalo Province reported one resident swept away by floodwaters during landslides and flooding in Bone District, Bone Bolango Regency, Gorontalo Province. BPBD Head of Operations Achril Yoan Babyonggo confirmed on Wednesday that the victim, Wahnin Tangahu (35), was carried by the current to the sea during the floods and landslides on Tuesday (26 May) evening. “The victim was successfully found and rescued by locals, then taken to Tombulilato Hospital before being referred to Aloe Saboe Regional Public Hospital for further medical treatment and is now receiving care,” said Achril. He explained that heavy rain began pouring over Bone District from 6:00 PM WITA, with floods and landslides occurring around 10:00 PM WITA, flooding dozens of residents’ homes. BPBD recorded 35 houses affected by flooding, with one house severely damaged after being swept away by floodwaters and landslides. In initial response efforts, the village government, alongside TNI (military), Polri (police), and volunteers conducted assessments, evacuated victims, and assisted displaced residents in Dusun 3. Residents and officials also worked together to clear flood and landslide debris from affected areas. The Bone Bolango Regency BPBD stated that urgent needs include ready-to-eat meals, construction materials, and heavy machinery for landslide debris clearance. Meanwhile, Bone District Head Fian K Ruchban reported that affected residents are spread across several villages in Bone District. The BPBD urged residents to remain vigilant against potential subsequent floods and landslides due to continued heavy rainfall in the area.
