The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Lebak Regency, Banten, reported that five sub-districts in the region were hit by floods and landslides. The event was triggered by heavy rainfall that has been lashing the area since Friday (15/5).

The Head of BPBD Lebak Regency, Sukanta, confirmed that his team is still conducting data collection in the field. Although the damage is quite extensive, he assured that there were no casualties in the incident.

“We are still conducting data collection until today, but the natural disaster did not cause any fatalities or injuries,” said Sukanta when contacted in Lebak, Saturday (16/5).

The disaster began after heavy rain accompanied by strong winds lasted for approximately five hours, starting at 13:30 WIB until 18:00 WIB on Friday. This caused six major rivers to overflow, namely the Peucangpari River, the Cimaur River, the Cibeurih River, the Cilaki River, the Ciminyak River, and the Cisimeut River.

There are 11 villages spread across five sub-districts that were most affected, including:

Based on preliminary data from BPBD Lebak, the material losses due to the overflowing rivers and land shifts include:

Currently, BPBD Lebak has deployed disaster management equipment and distributed logistical assistance in the form of 100 food packages and 37 tarpaulins for affected residents. Coordination with sub-district and village authorities is also being strengthened.

However, Sukanta admitted that the complete data collection process is still facing obstacles in the field. “The terrain conditions make it difficult to conduct data collection due to the natural disaster,” he said, referring to access roads affected by landslides and flooding.
