Flooding still inundates residential area in Pulo Indah Duri Kosambi, West Jakarta
Jakarta — Flooding 60 centimetres deep continues to inundate residential areas in Jalan Pulo Indah Raya, Duri Kosambi, Cengkareng, West Jakarta through Monday morning.
One resident, Zami (20), stated that flooding began submerging homes from Saturday (7 March) evening. “The roads started flooding from Saturday night, and it kept rising right through until just before dawn prayers,” said Zami at the location on Monday.
At the scene, the main road access through the residential area remained paralysed for approximately one kilometre, preventing vehicle passage. Homes were inundated with water levels varying between 60 and 80 centimetres. The majority of residents with two-storey homes chose to remain in their houses.
However, several residents whose homes were heavily flooded, particularly families with infants and pregnant women, were evacuated using rubber boats. At the edge of the residential area, public roads became makeshift parking lots for motorcycles and cars belonging to flood-affected residents, with vehicles moved to higher, dry ground to prevent flood damage.
Residents expressed concern when heavy rain returned Sunday (8 March) evening. “Usually when it’s just rain, it recedes quickly, but this time it remains high because it’s floodwater from upstream,” Zami noted.
He explained that this was the second major flooding incident in 2026. The first flood submerged Pulo Indah Raya in late January with water levels reaching one metre. Zami complained about the repeated flooding, describing the exhaustion from repeatedly cleaning homes and furniture covered in flood mud.
“It’s tiring, really exhausting because of all the cleaning needed. We keep getting flooded like this over and over,” he said. He acknowledged that his home had been spared from internal flooding for several years previously, but since early 2026, residential areas have been inundated whenever heavy rain falls.
Residents are hopeful that the government will swiftly address and resolve the flooding problem.
