Flooding reaching 10 to 15 centimetres on Jl DI Panjaitan in East Jakarta this morning has begun to recede. Traffic conditions in the surrounding area have become congested.

Head of Operations at the East Jakarta Metropolitan Police Traffic Unit, AKP Eko Apriyanto, said the flooding initially reached 10 to 15 centimetres at 08.15 Western Indonesian Time this morning. Police officers and water resource agency (SDA) personnel were already on site to pump out the floodwater.

Despite the flooding, traffic in the area remained passable for both two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles. By 08.54 Western Indonesian Time, the water had begun to recede.

“The flooding has now receded — what was previously 10-15 cm has been drained with the help of two SDA pumping units,” he said.

He noted that traffic in the surrounding area was experiencing congestion from the direction of UKI Cawang towards Jl DI Panjaitan, owing to high vehicle volume.

“It’s just heavy traffic volume, because the rain has stopped and people who were sheltering have now all come out, heading from Cawang northward towards Cempaka Putih,” he said.
