Jakarta — Flooding affecting Jalan Latumenten in Grogol Petamburan, West Jakarta has persisted into Monday afternoon with no signs of subsiding.

Observations at the location at 12.30 pm local time showed standing water still present with depths of 20-30 centimetres along the leftmost lane heading from Grogol Intersection towards Tambora. Whilst the route remained passable, significant traffic congestion was unavoidable as vehicles were forced to move slowly.

“The flooding started on Sunday during the pre-dawn meal. Yesterday it was even deeper, reaching our ankles and entering the convenience store,” said Jojo, a parking attendant at a minimarket on Jalan Latumenten.

Beyond the flooding itself, an ongoing flyover construction project on Jalan Latumenten has worsened congestion by reducing the available road width for traffic. Additionally, the frequent passage of trains at the railway crossing has further compounded delays.

“Even without flooding, this area would be congested because of the construction project and train crossings,” Jojo added.

One motorist, Alwan (23), expressed frustration over the severe traffic jam experienced Monday morning. “The congestion is awful. Monday mornings are typically busier, but this is exceptionally bad. I have been stuck here for 15 minutes and have moved only a few metres, despite already being able to see the Soeharto Heerdjan Psychiatric Hospital building,” he said.
