Blora Regency Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reported flooding caused by river overflow submerging dozens of homes across several locations in Cepu District, Blora Regency, Central Java, on Sunday night. The incident occurred after prolonged heavy rainfall in Cepu District and upstream river areas, causing river water levels to rise and overflow into residential areas. Agung Triyono of the Blora BPBD Rapid Reaction Team (TRC) stated that the flooding was due to overflow from the Ngareng and Tamansiswa rivers, which flow through residential areas. ‘Floodwaters have inundated homes in several locations across Cepu District,’ said Agung. He explained that 35 houses in Cepu Village’s RW 01 Ngareng Sawahan area were affected by water levels ranging from 30 to 60 centimetres. The BPBD confirmed no casualties from the incident. Agung said the TRC team has conducted assessments, data collection, and assisted in evacuating affected residents. Coordination with relevant agencies is also underway for further response. The BPBD cited fast-flowing water and high river discharge as obstacles in on-ground response efforts. However, flood conditions in some areas have begun to recede, with no residents forced to evacuate. ‘Some areas have started to recede and are gradually returning to normal,’ Agung added.
