Flooding in Manggarai, NTT: Eight Houses Submerged, Nine Households Displaced

Eight houses in Manong Village, North Rahong District, Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), were submerged in floodwaters on Friday, May 15, 2026. Nine households, who occupied the eight houses, have been displaced and are taking shelter in other residents’ homes.

“A total of nine households have been displaced, and eight houses have been severely affected,” said the Head of Manong Village, Vinsensius Jebarus.

Vinsensius said that the affected houses are located in three hamlets. Specifically, six houses are in Garang Hamlet, and one house each is in Lada and Laru Hamlets. The house in Laru Hamlet is occupied by two households.

The flooding in several hamlets occurred due to heavy rainfall. Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds has occurred in Manggarai in recent days. The water in the river near the residential area of Maning Village then overflowed, causing the flood.

“Rainwater from residents’ plantations, which are located on the upper part of the residential area, and in the residents’ gardens where peanuts and corn are planted, flows into the river near the residential area,” explained Vinsensius.
