Jakarta — Flooding continues to submerge residential areas in the vicinity of Jalan Pulo Indah Raya, Duri Kosambi, Cengkareng, West Jakarta, from Saturday 7 March 2026 through Monday 9 March 2026 morning.

A field observation at approximately 08.00 WIB found that the main road access in the residential area extending approximately 1 kilometre was completely impassable for vehicles.

Residents’ homes are inundated with water levels varying between 60 and 80 centimetres in height.

Meanwhile, some residents whose homes were flooded, particularly families with infants and pregnant women, have been evacuated using rubber boats. Vehicles have been moved to higher, drier locations to prevent damage from the flooding.

Zami, a 20-year-old affected resident, reported that flooding began inundating homes on Saturday evening. “Starting Sunday evening the road flooding began, continuing from late night through the pre-dawn meal period, the water kept rising,” Zami said when met on site on Monday.

According to him, although rainfall ceased since Sunday morning, overflow from nearby rivers and reservoirs in the residential area caused the flooding to continue rising. Residents became anxious when heavy rain returned briefly on Sunday evening.

“Usually when it’s just from rainfall it recedes quickly, but this has remained high because it’s water runoff from upstream,” he explained.

He noted that this particularly severe flooding is the second occurrence in 2026. The first flood inundated the Pulo Indah Raya residential area in late January with water levels reaching one metre.

He also expressed frustration at the repeated flooding, which exhausts residents through the necessity of cleaning houses and furniture affected by flood mud. “It’s tiring, mainly because of all the cleaning required. This keeps happening repeatedly,” he said.

He acknowledged that in recent years his home had been spared from flooding that entered the house itself. However, since the start of 2026, the residential area has been inundated whenever heavy-intensity rainfall occurs.

Residents are hoping that the government can promptly resolve the flooding problem.
