Flooding in Bungo: Residents Receive Food Packages

Residents affected by the flooding in Bungo have complained about the difficulty of obtaining food. On Friday (15 May), the Bungo Police Department used inflatable boats to distribute food packages to residents in need in the flooded areas.

Public Relations Officer of the Bungo Police, Iptu Bambang JM, said that the distribution of food packages to flood victims in Bungo was expected to alleviate the hunger of residents who have been stranded by the floods since Thursday (14 May) until today.

“While patrolling and monitoring the situation on the ground, officers together with the joint team deployed provided food packages to residents. This is a form of humanitarian concern for some of our brothers and sisters who have been affected by the disaster,” said Bambang JM.

Bambang said that based on the information received, the flood in Bungo had receded in several locations. However, there are still puddles of water inundating residential areas in eight sub-districts in Bungo Regency.

The flood in Bungo inundated parts of the Tanah Tumbuh, Tanah Sepenggal, Tanah Sepenggal Lintas, Rantau Pandan, Muko-Muko, Muara Bungo, Bathin II Babeko, and Pelayang sub-districts.

To avoid undesirable incidents, the Bungo Police together with police personnel from the eight affected sub-districts conducted patrols to the disaster locations.

“Currently, personnel are still helping residents affected by the flood, including urging residents who are still in the area to be vigilant,” said Bambang.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Regent of Bungo Regency, Tri Wahyu Hidayat, while reviewing the flood location in Bungo, asked relevant technical agencies to immediately map out the urgent needs of the flood-affected residents.

He said that the Bungo Regency Government had operated a public kitchen and emergency post to accommodate residents who were displaced due to the flood in Bungo.

Meanwhile, the Sultan Thaha Jambi Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysical Station predicted that heavy rain on Friday (15 May) would hit most of the Jambi Province, including 17 sub-districts in Bungo Regency. Heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds throughout the day and night is predicted to hit Bungo, Merangin, Sarolangun Kerinci, Tebo, Batanghari, and Muarojambi Regencies, as well as the cities of Jambi and Sungai Penuh. Afifuddin explained to journalists in Jakarta on Friday (4 April) that the PSU was a follow-up to the Constitutional Court (MK) ruling.

Ribka emphasised that the implementation of the PSU was a form of government commitment to ensure that every stage of democracy runs well, transparently, and meets the principles of justice.
