Flooding hits Konawe regency
KENDARI, Southeast Sulawesi: Flooding has hit Konawe regency,
Southeast Sulawesi over the past week, affecting some 700
families in the regency.
The families, some of whom have taken refuge in safer places,
have been in disarray for the past week, with their houses being
damaged, their cattle swept away, and their paddy fields
inundated by water that could lead to harvest failure.
Arief Rahman, an executive with the Indonesian Forum for the
Environment's (Walhi) Southeast Sulawesi chapter, called on the
public to give aid to the victims of the flooding. The aid could
be in the form of medicine and food, said Arief. -- JP
