TANGERANG, KOMPAS.com — Recurring floods that inundate the Cipondoh Lake Marsh tourism area in Tangerang City have led to a continuous decline in visitor numbers. This situation has even caused many vendors to leave the location due to frequently disrupted access and damaged facilities. The only access route to the area is about one and a half metres wide and can only be traversed by motorbikes. During floods, this narrow road is often submerged in water up to about 50 centimetres, making it difficult for visitors to enter the tourism site. “The road is blocked by floods; sometimes motorbikes try to push through, but it’s scary because the road is so narrow,” said Rika Sahara (32), a vendor in the area, on Wednesday (8/4/2026). This condition has rendered many vendor stalls unusable, particularly the bamboo lesehan-style seafood eateries. As a result, vendors have one by one chosen to leave the location. “There used to be up to 15 vendors trading here, but now only three remain. The vendors moved on their own because it’s no longer viable here,” she said. A similar situation was described by Usuf Sulaiman (38), a resident who has been active around Cipondoh Lake for nearly 20 years. He stated that flooding has accelerated the decline in activity in the area. “When it floods, access is cut off. People get lazy to come here,” said Usuf. This situation contrasts with a few years ago when the area was still one of the residents’ tourism destinations. Visitors came to enjoy cuisine, relax, and try water rides. Now, such activities are almost non-existent. The area is mostly visited by anglers, while general tourists have drastically decreased. Despite the ongoing decline, some vendors are still holding on in the hope that the area will be repaired and attract visitors again. “The hope is that it gets fixed again, so it becomes bustling like before,” said Rika. Meanwhile, Tangerang City Government spokesperson Mualim stated that the maintenance and management of Cipondoh Lake falls under the authority of the Banten Provincial Government. “It’s under the province because the management authority is with the Banten Provincial Government,” said Mualim when contacted by Kompas.com.
