Flooding Engulfs Padang Tonight, More Than a Dozen People Reported Trapped
Heavy rain since Saturday (10 October) afternoon has caused flooding in several parts of Padang, West Sumatra. More than a dozen people have reportedly been trapped and need to be evacuated.
The flooding has also inundated the Luminpark luxury housing complex in Lubuk Minturun, which was hit by a similar disaster in late November 2025. There has been no official report on the number of casualties, as the evacuation of residents was still under way this evening.
Hendri Zulviton, head of the Padang City Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), said the worst flash flooding this time had struck two districts: Kuranji and Koto Tangah.
“So far, we have received reports from two districts: Kuranji and Koto Tangah,” Hendri told reporters.
In Kuranji, the worst-affected area is Guo Lapau Munggu. In Koto Tangah, the hardest-hit locations are Lumin Park and Kampung Apa.
“The worst conditions are there. Other areas have also been affected, but not as badly as those locations—Guo in Kuranji and Lumin Park,” he said.
He said the teams were currently prioritising the evacuation of affected residents.
“Our focus is on evacuation first,” he added.
CNNIndonesia.com observed that water levels remained high at several locations, disrupting traffic. On the By Pass road in front of Siti Rahma Hospital, the water had risen so high that the road was impassable.
Similar conditions were seen outside the Tunggul Hitam public cemetery. Long traffic jams also formed as vehicles were unable to pass.
CNNIndonesia.com also received several videos showing conditions faced by residents. Some had climbed into their attics to save themselves and were asking search and rescue teams for help with evacuation.
At 7pm Western Indonesian Time, rain was still falling, although it had begun to ease in some places.
