Residents placed flowers whilst visiting family graves submerged by floodwaters at Semper Public Cemetery (TPU Semper) in Jakarta on Tuesday (17/2/2026). Ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, Muslims carry out grave pilgrimages to pray for deceased family members and relatives.

Visitors were seen scattering flowers at family graves despite the flooding, and wading through floodwaters after completing their visits at the cemetery.

The tradition of visiting graves ahead of Ramadan remains deeply ingrained amongst Indonesian Muslims, with residents undeterred by the flooding conditions at the Jakarta cemetery.
