Flood victims to be relocated

JAKARTA (JP): The city administration will build low-cost apartments in flood hit areas in Jati Petamburan, Central Jakarta, in an attempt to provide better housing to local flood victims.

The head of the city housing agency, Onky Sukasah, said yesterday that the five-story apartment buildings will stand on a two-hectare plot. "The project will start in 1997," he said.

Onky said that the eight buildings, with 180 apartments each, will cost Rp 30 billion (US$13.95 million).

The money will come from the city budget and, based on gubernatorial decree No. 540/1990, from developers who apply for permits to build luxurious apartments.(yns)
